    Vancouver B.C. hosts “Journeys Weekend”

“It was the best of times……. It was the best of times.” such was the sentiment expressed by one participant of the “Journey’s Weekend” sponsored recently by Lotus Travel.

In Vancouver, Friday night started with a plentiful potluck, which was held at the beautiful Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden" in downtown Vancouver.  FCC BC co-chairs , Sheila Kirkby and Sharon Hughes  organized the event. Jenni Fang Lee of “Somewhere Between” visited with adults and kids during the meal.  After the meal she did interactive play with the younger kids, including game time with some classics such as “Duck, Duck, Goose” and more. There was a lot of wonderful food, as well as time to visit and get acquainted, all the while enjoying a beautiful evening with friends.

Journys WeekendJournys WeekendOn Saturday, the teens and tweens had craft and conversation time with Fang and a group picture as well.  Concurrently, parents dug into China travel insights from Lotus Heritage Workshops; they also covered a wide array of topics later during a Q & A discussion with Fang.  During that time, participants learned about Fang’s Mandarin lessons from Journys WeekendChinese “Tiger Nannies” and a host of other tidbits experienced during some of her 14 different return trips to China.   The day wrapped up with heartfelt sharing from Lea Xu (co-owner of Lotus Travel) about life in China as a young child, as well as an adult.  She discussed living in China for the past six years with her three children and husband.   She was able to share numerous insights on life in modern China, including:   moving to America, owning a business and returning to China to live for the past six years as a parent of three girls.   Lea also shared many in-depth insights on certain aspects of travel preperation, including gift ideas for orphanage staff, table manners and cultural expectations.
